Who we are

Byron-Gaines Utility Authority is a public water and sewer utility based at 1381 84th Street SE in Byron Center, Michigan, serving Byron Township and Gaines Charter Township. We were formed in 2002 to operate and maintain the jointly owned utility systems for both townships, and our website states that our mission is to provide high quality water and sewer utility services through consistent operations, effective maintenance, and responsible stewardship of resources.

What we do

At Byron-Gaines Utility Authority, we operate and maintain the water distribution and sanitary sewer collection systems for Byron Township and Gaines Charter Township. Our water system includes more than 214 miles of water main, 2,983 fire hydrants, and three water storage tanks, while our sanitary sewer system includes more than 198 miles of sewer main and five sewer lift stations.

We also handle inspections for new water and sewer connections, cross connection and backflow work, grease interceptor oversight, meter reading for the townships, Miss Dig utility marking, and after-hours emergency response.
